Taiwan Cups 2007
This years Taiwan Cups have brought mixed results.
The summer cup in Taipei saw a disappointing first day, losing
twice before
finally winning the last group game. With the introduction of a
new format for the
cup and plate we played group games instead of a knock out. We
won three out of
four games to take top place in the group and go into the Plate
Final. Steve gave us the lead
but Shane pulled level and it went to penalties. Hudson's last
game for The Pacers ended
in triumph, Pacers clinical finishing giving the keeper no
chance, before Hudson pulled
off the save to win. Next up was the Fall Cup moved to Kaohsiung
because of things going on in
Tainan. On home soil and with some new talent things were
looking positive. Three group games
played and no goals conceded, someone said the new keeper Jon
only touched the ball four
or five times in total! We had most of the possession and plenty
of shots, but could only
find the net twice. That was enough to qualify for the cup (but
in a disappointing second place).
How we didn't beat the Tubbies know body knows! In the cup group
of death we
lost to Compass first up and then tied with Phoenix and
Deportivo. No winter cup this year.
Spring Cup in Tainan 2008. |
December 2007
Eve of Pacers 10 year anniversary party.
England vs Rest of the World coming in two weeks.
Who's going to win, surely not ROW!!!!
Third place in Phuket for the Pacers Masters.
No one is happy with a semi final defeat to the eventual
winners.
But we can hold our heads up taking them to a golden goal in
extra time,
after taking an early lead. The team consisted of nine Pacers
from the
2001 winning team team in Bangkok plus super keeper Newley.
The Under's came good this year claming the annual Peter Pan
trophy in September.
A hard fought victory. The difference was Gourley's sharp
shooting claiming
a hat trick for or against the run of play only your team can
tell you! |
January 2007
The latest edition of the Southern league kicked off in
November.
Not good news from the first two games. Defeats to Compass and
Phoenix
leave us near the bottom of the table. In true Pacers spirit the
annual clash
for World supremacy took place on Christmas Eve. In a hard
fought game no one
could get the ball past either keeper. Not even Orlando. I'm
sure he felt ok
though after a few consoling words in Spanish from Nestor
*#$%$#.
Christmas and New Year have passed and no it's back to serious
footballing
action. The first game of 2007 was a Southern League game
against the Massive.
Neal had his free-kick taking boots on today. Scoring twice from
just outside
the box. Nestor putting away the third and towards the end Bully
laying the
ball in for Pat to run on and slot it past the keeper 4-0.
Next up is the
Winter Cup at CPC on 20/21st
January.
On home soil in Kaohsiung we hope to push it to the limits and
grab
the silverware. Not going to be easy but if we can get everyone
focused
and working as a unit hopefully we can bang in a few goals.
Jan 8th
CONGRATULATIONS to Iain and Josephine on the birth of their
second child.

October 2006:
A third place finish in Taichung was the best result for some
time
in a tournament. For a change Sunday was really solid,
Saturday
had it's moments, but was a little shaky at times. more soon......
Also in the news,
it's good to be old -don't you know.
This years under 30 -over 30 had a change of format, due largely
to the
fact that this is an old team with old players. So this year there
were
three teams instead of the original two. Young guns under 30.
Pacemakers over 35 and the 30 to 35's. Guess who won? Oh you
already know by now. Click
here for results. |
Sept 2006: No
news is good news.
Unless you are the editor of the latest news column.
Adi is now 31. It's official, marked with black forest gateau
at the shop on Wednesday.
To celebrate celebrating, dragons were seen outside the shop
the Wednesday before...full story to follow..
It's off to Taichung in the morning looking for good things to
come
on the football field. Let's see some goals get banged into the
net! |
8/9 April
2006.
Controversial weekend with Spring Scream and the Spring Cup
both
taking place this weekend.
This will be the last time Adi will lead the Pacers.
He will be stepping down. New captain to be voted in sometime
soon. |
|
The second half of the
Southern League kicks off this weekend. |
The Winter Cup
2006
Winners of the plate: Pingdong "Scratch Meee Arse" with
a team made up of
several Pacers players, Hudson in goal and Watson captain the so
called
scratch team almost played their way into the top half of the draw
and a
quarter final place. Losing to JFC in the last seconds of the last
group game.
Sunday saw an undefeated run of 3 games and the silver ware is
theirs. |

The
Winter Cup 2006
Started well with a 3-0 win over The Tubbies (actually Tubbies B
team).
A 0 - 0 draw with the Celts wasn't the best result for us but we
could still get
something from this competition if we could do something against
the
Red Lions. It didn't go to plan and we lost 1-0. But thanks to the
Tubbies
they bravely held the Celts to 0-0 draw and we advance in second
place.
The quarter final against Phoenix on Sunday. A good hard fought
game
finished 1-1 when they score from an un cleared corner to
equalize.
Pacers once famed for penalty shoot outs losing again 2-3
(best of three).
After that defeat there were only a few brief glimpses of football
as we
lose both games. |
|
31 Dec 2005.
England 1 - 0 Rest of the World.
One goal from Adi was all that separated the two teams at the end
of
90 minutes in another dominant day for colonial power. |

So
what really did happen this year - 2005?
Bangkok came and went back in March. A great weekend of fun and
sport.
Sport won, fun scored a few points too. We played some decent
games as a
well some weak ones. But the main problem was finding the back of
the net.
After BKK it was straight into the Spring Cup in Tainan. We didn't
put in our
best performance once again, but finished the tournament strongly
with a 1-0
win over the Red Lions.
This was also the year that saw the start of the Taiwan Southern
League.
We started with two wins, one away to Compass that set us on our
way in
the league, but losing to Massive after taking the lead ended up
costing us
the League. Compass won the title.
The hot and steamy Summer Cup was up next in Taipei.
Probably the smallest turn out of players for the cup in Pacers
history.
Bull was on the side lines. He busted his arm the weekend before
against
Phoenix. It was a slow start that gave Red Star a couple of
chances the
game finished 0-0. They went on to self destruct later. Another
draw in the
next game saw us needing to beat Compass. But we got outplayed
and
lost. Into the plate and a dreadful start, lost to a goal from
B52's only shot
of the game after wasting a hat full of chances ourselves.
The fall cup didn't do anything for moral with some disappointing
displays one team not showing for the game and only 2 goals.
The second edition of the Southern League kicked off with a tough
game
in Taichung coming back from 0-2 only to lose 3-2 near the end.
The game
started in perfect weather but the ensuing down poor flooding the
pitch
in a matter of minutes. Victories against Phoenix, Massive and
Scunners
were to follow but the final league game of 2005 saw lose out to
the Tubbies. |
|
As
we enter March
(2005)the first game of the NEW Taiwan Southern League
has already been played. A convincing 4-0 win against
Phoenix,
who were lacking several key players for the game.
The second game coming up this weekend away to Taichung
United.
Our first International trip for a year and half is fast
approaching.
We will be in Bangkok on March 26 / 27.
Also coming up soon is the Spring Cup in Tainan.
Dates for that Should be April 16 / 17.

En
ger land En ger land.
The game of the season has been played and
as usual there is ONLY one winner.
England take the honours yet again with a hard fought 2-1 win
against a Rest of The World team that kept it going down to the
wire.
With holidays and Christmas day claiming all but the brave,
it was left to Kaohsiungs finest gentlemen to duel in this annual
spectacular.
and it didn't disappoint the fans.( Dec 2004)

|
Build
up to the Winter
Cup
2004 in Kaohsiung
is under way.
With just under two months until kick off pitches are booked
and things are taking shape.
A few friendly games and the BRUISING England
R.O.W. to come
Then if we can survive Christmas and New Year it's game on.

Southern
7's Tainan : 7 Nov 2004
Pacers Black coasting into the semi's just made sure with
a draw
in the last group game. Pacers Red in a tough situation needed to
win
their last group game, put on a commanding display to dispatch
Taichung.
That set up a Pacer vs Pacer semi.
The crowd was hoping the two magnificent Pacer teams would meet
in the Final, but not to be as only one could progress.
What a semi: tight, action packed and full of drama.
But it had to come down to spot kicks. Blacks going first
Converting all to take the victory after Reds missed the first
kick.
In a hard fought tight final Luke Jones finds space on the left to
slot home.
There was some LATE drama. In the longest 45 seconds
on record Manila Phoenix pump the ball into the box and nearly
sneak
an equalizer. The one header on target though was easy
for Mark in goal.
1-0 Pacers, enough to bring home the cup.
|
|
After
a twelve - five goal fest against Massive It's
all change atop
the scoring charts ,with Andy taking the number
one spot from Nick.
Coming up behind there are now four players on ten goals.
Next game Taichung Fall Cup against Phoenix
|
|
After 4 wins including
beating Phoenix twice
We went into the 2nd leg of the final tied 1-1.
But it all came unstuck and the Teletubbies win in the Final 4-3
to snatch the cup away from us, scoring twice from the spot.

Taipei
Summer Cup July 10 / 11.
The weekend in Taipei finished with the Dragons winning
the Cup beating Phoenix in the final 4-1.
Saturday proved to be a good day , 3 wins and no goals
conceded saw us easily win group C. We beat Inter 1-0 in
the Q/F , but couldn't get past the eventual winners in the semi.
So we had to settle for a disappointing 4th place losing
to the Animals 2-1 after being a goal up.

Well
the 14 game unbeaten run has just come to end.
It lasted from March 13 to May 30
with 8 wins and 6 draws with 10 of those games having a clean
sheet.
The last run like this was from May 4 to June 29 last year (2003)
which saw us go 11 games un defeated and winning the Summer Cup.
